Founded in 1990 by Randi Fairbrother (1930-2023 Obituary), and incorporated as a nonprofit in 1991, Catalyst for Cats, Inc. of Santa Barbara, CA is dedicated to helping stray and feral cats. The organization’s primary goal is to prevent the suffering of cats, and its main strategy is the reduction and control of feral cat populations within Santa Barbara County through its TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) and feeding programs.

Marci Kladnik, Catalyst for Cats volunteer, has been a professional member of the international Cat Writers’ Association since 2010. CWA is an organization of professionals writing, publishing, and broadcasting about cats. Members include writers, editors, publishers, artists, public relations specialists, broadcasters and others. Marci was elected CWA president in fall 2014.
Marci's articles on this website have received the Cat Writers' Association Certificate of Excellence for 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014. She took Muses (first place) in 2013 and 2014. She also took Muses for photography in 2012 and 2013. To be recognized by her esteemed peers is an honor indeed.
Known in the Santa Barbara County area for her regular cat related column in the Santa Ynez Valley News, Lompoc Record and Santa Maria Times, Marci also volunteers as she can to further the Catalyst for Cats mission of addressing the feline overpopulation problem and preventing cruelty to animals by stopping the birth of unwanted and uncared for kittens.
